PAUL’S GAMBIT (2021)

Originally the idea was that me and my friends would hang out at a lake for a few days relaxing. After one of them asked if we should bring our cameras to take some photos or video the whole thing very soon turned into yet another short film production. I watched Queen’s Gambit shortly before and was still in awe by its story and production. Thats why I suggested we could try to create something inspired by that show.
None of us had a background in writing so for this short film we focused more on the cinematography and less on the script. Knowing the location well ahead of filming we had enough time to come up with a detailed story board and think of interesting shots.
Tom and I shared the role of director and DOP for the most part but all of us had a say during every stage of this project. In post-production I was responsible for the color grading. My bachelors thesis was on the topic of color grading as well and I was eager to put some of the stuff I learned to use.
